Two flower pots with a philhellenic theme

A pair of porcelain vases with representations of a Greek and a Turk with their horses. Meissen, mid – 19th century. Height: 44.5 cm. The subject of the conflict between a Greek and a Turkish was especially popular in the Philhellenic art even before the Greek Revolution, because of the works of Lord Byron (e.g. the Giaour).
