PHILHELLENES

Tribute to Lord Byron and the Philhellenes

Distinguished artists honour the “Year of Lord Byron and Philhellenism”, through works of great Greek and Philhellenes poets.

Contemporary musical composition embraces recitations and interpretations of poetry set to music, highlighting the works of internationally beloved poets: Lord Byron, Alexander Pushkin, Johanna Kinkel, Vittorio Sereni, Juliusz Slowacki, Frédéric Mistral, Kostis Palamas, Aristotelis Valaoritis.

We invite you on a musical journey from “The isles of Greece” of Lord Byron up to the “Victory” of Kostis Palamas.

Under the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis, after 200 years, Greeks and Philhellenes are united again in body, with one heart, and all together sing for Freedom and Peace!

In the context of the bicentenary since Lord Byron’s death, the Society for Hellenism and Philhellenism (SHP), collaborated with the British Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, to create an interactive map referring to Lord Byron’s travels in Greece, Italy and Switzerland. The interactive map presents audio-visual material, personal items, letters as well as Byronic and Philhellenic art from the collections of the Museum of Philhellenism for each of the cities that the great romantic poet passed through and lived.

You may visit the interactive map here.
